USJFCOM to get new command surgeon A Navy rear admiral and dental officer will be U.S. Joint Forces Command's next command surgeon. By USJFCOM Public Affairs (NORFOLK, Va. – Sept. 9, 2010) -- The secretary of the Navy announced that U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) will welcome a new command surgeon. Navy Rear Adm. Bruce A. Doll, Navy Medicine East deputy chief, will replace Navy Rear Adm. Michael H. Mittleman. As command surgeon, Doll will oversee the medical transformation of the armed forces of the United States. His directorate provides advice on force health protection in the command's joint force provider role as well as overseeing medical plans and policies that support the commander's initiatives. Doll was commissioned as an ensign in the Navy Reserve through the Dental Corps Student Reserve Component Direct Commissioning Program and was promoted to lieutenant upon graduation from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dentistry in 1981. Doll served as the commanding officer at Naval Reserve Operational Health Support Unit at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. In 2007, he deployed to support operations overseas as the Navy Expeditionary Medical Unit’s commander. Other assignments include the Naval Reserve Readiness Command Mid-Atlantic dental officer, 14th Dental Company executive officer and acting commanding officer at Fort Dix, N.J. He also served as the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery training officer with Naval Reserve Unit 106 in Washington, D.C.; the Periodontics Department head and training officer at the U.S. Naval Academy dental clinic at Annapolis, Md.; and at Naval Reserve Unit Norfolk as administrative officer. Doll has received fellowships in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the International and the American College of Dentists and is a senior research professor with the Carnegie Mellon University Bone and Tissue Center. His awards include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation (three awards), the Fleet Marine Force Ribbon, the Arctic Service Ribbon and several other awards. |
