Huber, has assumed additional responsibility as the acting commander of the Norfolk-based organization.  He assumes command from  Marine Corps Gen. James N. Mattis, who was confirmed as the next commander of U.S. Central Command Aug. 5.

(NORFOLK, Va. - Aug. 8, 2010) -- The deputy commander of U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM), Army Lt. Gen. Keith M. Huber, has assumed additional responsibility as the acting commander of the Norfolk-based organization. 
 
Huber assumes command from  Marine Corps Gen. James N. Mattis, who was confirmed as the next commander of U.S. Central Command Thursday by the U.S. Senate.

He will serve as acting commander until Army Gen. Ray Odierno assumes command of USJFCOM later this year.

Huber, a native of Springfield, Ohio, has served numerous conventional duty assignments, including tours with the 7th and 10th Infantry Divisions and two tours in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) as a company commander, battalion operations and brigade operations officer. During Operation Desert Storm, he was the chief of operations and later served as a battalion commander and director of civil military operations.

His joint duty unconventional warfare assignments include a tour as a Special Forces Operational Detachment commander in Panama. He served two tours as a field advisor in Nicaragua and El Salvador, and was the chief of operations for the United Nations mission in Haiti. He commanded Joint Task Force Bravo in Honduras and then served as executive officer to the commander of U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM).

As a general officer, Huber served as the director of operations of USSOUTHCOM, assistant division commander (operations) for the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), deputy commanding general for 1st Army, commander of Task Force Falcon in Kosovo, chairman of the Inter-American Defense Board, and director of the Inter-American Defense College in Washington, D.C. Most recently, he commanded U.S. Army South.

Huber graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1975 with a bachelor of science degree. His subsequent military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, the Armor Officer Advanced Course, the Army Command and General Staff College, the Armed Forces Staff College and the Army War College. He also earned a master of public administration from Golden State University in 1984.

He has earned the Combat Infantryman, Expert Infantryman, Master Parachutist, Special Operations Diving Supervisor, Air Assault and Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification badges and is Special Forces and Ranger qualified.
