(NORFOLK, Va. - June 2, 2010) -- A sailor assigned to the Intelligence Directorate (J2) Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC) earned top honors as the U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) Senior Military Member of the 1st Quarter.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Heather Haskins Sarver works as a systems instructor with the J2 JIOC, where she helps train individuals on the unknowns they may face in the line of duty, providing them the tools they need to succeed.

Sarver says that she loves instructing and enjoys the challenges of her position.

"I think [one of] my strengths as a leader … [is] that I am enthusiastic about my job," said Sarver, a native of Davison, Mich. "I also really like being able to impart what I know to my junior military members so they don't have to learn the hard way."

She praised her co-workers for helping her earn this award and their impact on helping her train individuals in the classes they teach.

"My colleagues are essential to helping me complete my missions," she added. "We work together to make sure all of our classes are up to the highest standards. We are able to bounce ideas off of each other and give each other a different perspective on problems."

Army Chief Warrant Officer Chris Moore, Joint Forces Intelligence School Rank - Training Branch chief, says that Sarver received this honor due to her professionalism, technical and tactical capabilities, and desire to excel.

"She is the only instructor for the most sought-after courses that units want to receive prior to their deployments," he said. "Most of her training is via mobile training team at Army posts where she is often the first and only sailor that soldiers have ever seen.

"She has always received accolades for her professionalism and teaching. She is a great representative of the Navy, the Joint Forces Intelligence School, J2 JIOC and USJFCOM," he continued.

Sarver's goals for her Navy career include successfully testing for her promotion exam, to successfully test and board for the Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare Device and to earn the Master Training Specialist qualification. She urges younger service members to continue learning and getting better at their jobs every day.

"The [best] advice I would give them is to take everything in and make every day a chance to learn something new," said Sarver, an avid biker. "You never know when it will come in handy."
