Command announces changes to 2010 Joint Warfighting Conference speakers

The director of the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization and the commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command join the speakers slate as U.S. Joint Forces Command announces changes to the 2010 Joint Warfighting Conference.

(NORFOLK, Va. -  May 6 , 2010) –-  The speakers list has been updated for this year’s Joint Warfighting Conference (JWC) at the Virginia Beach Convention Center  May 11-13.

Army Lt. Gen. Michael L. Oates, director of the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization will deliver the conference’s opening address May 11, replacing Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Michèle A. Flournoy.  Navy Adm. John C. Harvey Jr., commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, will speak at lunch that day, replacing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Navy Adm. Mike Mullen.

NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, French Air Force Gen. Stéphane Abrial, will open the second day on May 12, followed later in the day by Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, commander, U.S. Central Command, who will speak at lunch via video teleconference.

Air Force Gen. Craig R. McKinley, chief of the National Guard Bureau will speak in the morning May 13.  Marine Corps Gen. James N. Mattis, commander, USJFCOM, will close the conference’s slate of speakers at lunch that day.

U. S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM), the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), the U.S. Naval Institute, National Defense Industrial Associations Greater Hampton Roads Chapter and the local AFCEA Hampton Roads and Tidewater chapters will host the event.

During the three days, the conference will focus on the theme of “Combatant and Coalition Commanders: What Will They Need Five Years From Now?” and will feature several  panel speakers exploring and offering insight on specific areas of the theme.

 The panels include:

  • Power Shifts: Who’s Up?  Who’s Down? What’s Changing?
  • Fresh from the Fight: What Do Company Level Leaders See as the Threats?
  • What Should Be Done to Secure the Homelands?
  • What Needs to Be Done to Make the Interagency Pieces Work?
  • Battles of Competing Narratives: Why Do They Matter?
  • Small Unit Excellence: What Will It Take?
  • How Do We Fight Through a Digital Meltdown?
  • What Needs to Be Done to Make the Joint/Coalition Force Acquisition Interoperable?

The USJFCOM engagement booth will feature senior command leaders and subject matter experts from ACT to provide insights relevant to their specific areas. The booth is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily during the conference.
