U.S. Joint Forces Command’s (USJFCOM) leadership addressed concerns of its industry partners  following Secretary of Defense Robert Gates’ recent recommendation to disestablish the command.

Military, industry leaders speaker slate announced for Joint Warfighting Conference

Leaders from across the Department of Defense and industry will be on hand to speak as USJFCOM partners with the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, the U.S. Naval Institute and the National Defense Industrial Association to host the Joint Warfighting Conference 2009.

(NORFOLK, Va. - April 10, 2009) -- U. S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM), the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) International, the U.S. Naval Institute, National Defense Industrial Association Greater Hampton Roads Chapter and the local AFCEA Hampton Roads and Tidewater chapters will host speakers from across the Department of Defense and industry during the Joint Warfighting Conference (JWC) 2009 May 12-14, at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, Va.

Supreme Allied Commander Transformation/Commander USJFCOM Marine Gen. James N. Mattis will give opening remarks at the conference. Other scheduled keynote speakers include the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command's Commander Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, U.S. Special Operations Command's Commander Navy Adm. Eric T. Olson and Maersk Line, Limited Senior Vice President, Maritime Services, Stephen Carmel.

USJFCOM's business manager, Navy Capt. John Polowczyk, said the theme of the conference is "Building a Balanced Joint Force: How Best to Meet the Demands of the Future Security Environment."

"The first day centers on discussing the operating environment," Polowczyk said. "Day two focuses on how the force of the future will operate in that environment. During day three we say 'How does all of this impact industry?'"

May 12
10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.: Corporate Vice President, Intelligence Programs, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Richard L. Haver will moderate the panel on "What Will the World Look Like for Future Joint Force Commanders?"
2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Foreign Policy Research Institute, Research Fellow retired Marine Lt. Col. Frank G. Hoffman will moderate the panel on "Hybrid Warfare: What are the Implications for Future Joint Force Commanders?"
3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: former U.S. Space Command, Deputy Commander, retired Navy Vice Adm. Herbert A. Browne will moderate the panel on "The Cyber Factor: What is the Impact of Future Joint Operations?"

May 13
10:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.: former U.S. Central Command Commander retired Marine Gen. Anthony C. Zinni will moderate the panel on "Beyond the Military: How Do We Foster and Employ a More Comprehensive Approach in the Future Security Environment?"
2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: former U.S. Fleet Forces Command Deputy Commander retired Navy Vice Adm. Albert H. Konetzni Jr. will moderate the panel on "The Human Dimension: How Do We Develop Our People?"
3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: former Marine Corps Combat Development Command Commanding General retired Marine Lt. Gen. Paul K. Van Riper will moderate the panel on "Building a Balanced Joint Force: How Does the U.S. Military Adapt?"

May 14
10:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.: Vice President, Global Defense, Booz Allen Hamilton, former Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) and Chief Financial Officer, Department of Defense, Dr. Dov Zakheim will moderate the panel on "Innovative Acquisition: What Will It Take?"
