Online registration opens for annual Joint Warfighting Conference USJFCOM will co-sponsor this year’s Joint Warfighting Conference - “Building a Balanced Joint Force: How Best to Meet the Demands of the Future Security Environment.” By Susy Dodson (NORFOLK, Va. – March 2, 2009) –- Online registration begins today for the annual Joint Warfighting Conference May 12-14, 2009 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. U. S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM), the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), the U.S. Naval Institute (USNI) National Defense Industrial Associations Greater Hampton Roads Chapter (NDIA-GHRC), and the local AFCEA Hampton Roads and Tidewater chapters will host and co-manage the event. According to USJFCOM’s business manager, Navy Capt. John Polowczyk, the Joint Warfighting Conference is an annual event that captures the essence of “strategic level interfacing with military, government, industry, academia, other DoD [interagency], other nations, U.S. Coast Guard and non-profit organizations.” Polowczyk said the conference focuses on the theme of building a balanced joint force and how to best meet the demands of the future security environment as outlined in two products USJFCOM worked extensively during the last year: the Joint Operating Environment 2008 (JOE 2008) and the Capstone Concept for Joint Operations (CCJO). The conference seeks to examine just how these documents will impact both industry and joint warfighters. Marine Gen. James N. Mattis, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation and commander, USJFCOM, will kick off the event with a keynote address. Following Mattis’ address will be the event’s first panel, “What will the future look like for future joint force commanders?” The conference features several additional panels and hosts a keynote speaker during daily luncheons. “We’re trying to invite a cross section of military, government, industry, academia, other DoD [interagency], other nations, U.S. Coast Guard and non-profit organizations to come here,” said Polowczyk. “This is not just an industry engagemen;, this is a strategic engagement.” Polowczyk said last year’s event drew 230 industry booths. This year they are looking at having more industry participants. According to Polowczyk, USJFCOM also will set up a booth the convention center floor to highlight USJFCOM’s mission, the JOE, and the CCJO. Key command personnel will be at the booth throughout the three day event to discuss different aspects of the command’s mission in an open forum setting. The booth also will provide information to industry and academia on how they can partner with USJFCOM and will have a USJFCOM human resources representative to answer questions about employment opportunities for civilians at USJFCOM.
