U.S. Joint Forces Command has won the DoD Enterprise Architecture Achievement Government Organization Award for 2007 for a tool which helps map out the intricate nature of command and control systems for U.S. and NATO warfighters working around the world. By Army Spc. Andrew Orillion (ORLANDO, Fla. – April 18, 2008) –- U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) has won the DoD Enterprise Architecture Achievement Government Organization Award for 2007. The award recognizes the Joint Command and Control Architectures and Capability Assessment Enterprise (JACAE), a program created and administered by the command’s Joint Capability Development Directorate (J8). Stuart Whitehead, J8 executive director, accepted the award yesterday during the DoD Enterprise Architecture Conference here. "This award acknowledges the foresight, dedication and collaborative spirit of a great team," said Whitehead. "More importantly the JACAE capability breaks new ground and will serve as a foundational component of C2 capability portfolio management." JACAE maps out the available various command and control (C2) capabilities and how joint task force headquarters (JTF HQ) can bring them together to support a JTF and its networks. J8 supports the JTF HQ and USJFCOM’s C2 capability portfolio management efforts through the use of network architecture. J8’s Kim Frisby explained the significance of the JACAE. "The information that JACAE has provided has been used to directly support the JTF HQs formation support process," said Frisby. "JACAE has greatly improved the ability to rapidly identify what is required for sustainable JTF HQs C2 systems and applications and to be able to identify shortfalls and sourcing options," Frisby said. She added that this information provides critical support to the planners and operators who perform the JTF mission analysis and has expanded to support NATO’s efforts in Afghanistan. "The award highlights the work being done to support the warfighters at the JTF and component levels, and also how that work has been expanded to include [NATO’s] Allied Command Transformation (ACT)," Frisby said. "The JACAE information and methodology was used to assist ACT in the development of an architecture for the International Security Assistance Force." This award marks the second time the command has won an award for enterprise architecture excellence. They previously won in 2005 for developing the Joint Battle Management Command and Control Joint Capability Mapping Environment, a tool which JACAE replaced. |
