A U.S. Navy aviator will be the next director for strategy and policy at U.S. Joint Forces Command.

An administrative specialist from Special Operations Command Joint Forces Command (SOCJFCOM) received top honors as the U.S. Joint Forces Command’s (USJFCOM) Reserve Senior Military Member of the Year for 2009.

Military band honors veterans during free concert at Ferguson Center for the Arts
U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) will host its 15th annual "Salute to Veterans" concert on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Christopher Newport University's Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News.  The event is free and open to the public.

JCOA leadership to change

One Army aviator will replace another Army aviator as the Joint Center for Operational Analysis director as Brig. Gen. James O. Barclay III moves on to oversee the Army's Aviation Warfighting Center in Alabama.


(SUFFOLK, Va. - March 26, 2008) -- The current director of the Joint Center for Operational Analysis will soon oversee helicopter training for the U.S. Army.

Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. George Casey announced Tuesday Army Brig. Gen. James O. Barclay III will become the commanding general of the U.S. Army Aviation Warfighting Center and Fort Rucker, Fort Rucker, Ala.

As JCOA director, Brig. Gen. Barclay assists in leading the transformation of the joint force by producing compelling recommendations for change derived from direct observations and sound analysis of current joint operations, exercises and experiments. They also maintain a comprehensive database and archive of lessons and documents pertaining to previous and ongoing joint and combined operations around the world.

The general was commissioned a second lieutenant of infantry in 1978. He has served in various aviation and infantry units, and has commanded at the company, battalion and brigade levels, seeing service in Operations Provide Comfort in Iraq, Uphold Democracy in Haiti and Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. His most recent operational assignment was as the deputy commanding general (maneuver), 1st Infantry Division. His joint assignments include deputy division chief, United States Atlantic Command and executive officer to the commander, Multi-National Force-Iraq.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Military Academy and a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the from the U.S. Naval War College.

His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Achievement Medal, the Senior Army Aviator Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge

Army Col. Anthony Crutchfield, who has been selected for his first star, will replace Barclay as JCOA's leader.

Currently, the deputy commander/chief of staff of U.S. Army Accessions Command atFort Monroe, Va., Crutchfield has served as both an aviator and intelligence officer. He has flown the UH-1 Huey, UH-60 Blackhawk and AH-64 Apache helicopters.

He has served tours across the United States as well as in Germany and Saudi Arabia. He has commander at the platoon, company, battalion and brigade levels.

Commissioned in 1982, he has earned degrees from Marshall University, Webster University and the Army War College.

His decorations include awards of the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement medals and is authorized to wear the Senior Army Aviator Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
