(FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. -- Oct. 1, 2007) – U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM)’s Exercise Unified Endeavor 08-1 (UE 08-1) began here Sunday to train units scheduled for assignment with the Combined Joint Task Force-82 (CJTF-82) and NATO ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) Regional Command East in Afghanistan.

The exercise will take place simultaneously here as well as Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., Hurlburt Field, Fla., and the Joint Warfighting Center, Suffolk, Va. and involves military personnel from across the country as well as multi-national partners. Designed as a mission rehearsal exercise (MRX), the event will provide realistic training scenarios for the participants involved and prepare them to work in Afghanistan.

A group of USJFCOM and observer/trainers will help with the MRX and make sure that the participants accomplish the training objectives.

UE 08-1 focuses on several areas of strategic importance in the Afghan theater including; integration and coordination with
• the government of Afghanistan,
• the Afghan National Army and Security Forces
• counter narcotics operations
• detainee operations and
• disruption of enemy financial assets.

UE 08-1 will synchronize or simulate operations across the entire network of participants to replicate the current CJTF-88 and NATO ISAF Regional Command East battle rhythm.

Participating units include the 101st Airborne Division, Air Combat Command, the U.S. Army Forces Command and NATO units, as well as individual augmentees from other units and foreign military partners.

The exercise will wrap up Oct. 13.
