Exercise to begin to prepare Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa for deployment

USJFCOM conducts mission rehearsal exercise to prepare Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa for deployment for service in countries such as Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea.

By USJFCOM Public Affairs

(SUFFOLK, Va. – Jan. 12, 2007) –-U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) will conduct Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa Mission Rehearsal Exercise 07-1 starting tomorrow and running through Jan. 18.

The USJFCOM-directed and conducted, and U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) - supported exercise will provide realistic scenarios to train the incoming Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) headquarters staff in preparation for deployment.

Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa works to help prevent conflict, promote regional stability and protect Coalition interests in Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti and Yemen through humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and civic action programs.

The exercise includes subject matter experts from USCENTCOM and several interagency organizations. It will take place at USJFCOM’s Joint Warfighting Center here.

A group of USJFCOM observer/trainers also will help the training audience accomplish their training objectives. Some of those objectives include:
• Use effects-based approach to support planning and campaign assessment, and enable unity of effort
• Incorporate Horn of Africa regional cultural considerations, to include integration and coordination with host nation forces
• Exercise and synchronize key boards, bureaus, centers, cells and working groups to replicate current CJTF-HOA battle rhythm
• Incorporate Standing Joint Force Headquarters elements who previously served in theater
