USJFCOM Public Affairs
(NORFOLK,
VA. - September 28, 2006) -- A small group of U.S. Joint
Forces Command (USJFCOM) personnel have deployed
to different countries in U.S. Central Command's (CENTCOM)
areas of responsibility (AOR) in an effort to better respond
to operational requirements of the warfighter and improve
the understanding of transformation.
USJFCOM deployed its first rotation of its support element
to CENTCOM. Three teams were sent to Qatar, Baghdad and
Tampa, Fla. on a 120-day rotation to provide CENTCOM with
USJFCOM support.
Army
Col. John Domenech, director of the support element explained
that the mission is to "to marry up the
warfighter needs with the USJFCOM capabilities. It looks
like it's going to be an ongoing commitment by our command
to support CENTCOM."
Army
Lt. Col. Paul Coyle, deputy director of the support
element to Iraq, added, "[USJFCOM's Commander] Gen.
Smith understands that our mission is to support the warfighter,
therefore he feels that it's important enough to send an
element forward to CENTCOM and try and figure out how we
can better support the warfighter in a more rapid manner,
how we can bring more to bear for the warfighter faster."
In addition to improving the understanding of USJFCOM,
the teams assist with operational requirements using a
joint point of view and serve as the focal point for all
USJFCOM support.
"The
job is to let these guys know what's out there, try and
find out what their requirements are, and then
match up what we have to make their job easier and cleaner
to achieve the goals they are pursuing in support of the
nation's Long War," said Coyle.
Navy
Cmdr. Bill Doan, deputy director of the support element
to Qatar, HOA, and Afghanistan explained that the teams
have been "evaluating USJFCOM's priorities and making
sure they match the needs and fill the gaps that the warfighter
has."
The teams are facilitating USJFCOM's efforts to develop
solutions, test under realistic conditions, advance capabilities,
and support the joint warfighter.
"They
inform the warfighting commands there what capabilities
USJFCOM can help them to bring to bear in
the prosecution of their efforts through a whole range
of operations including, military, public affairs, analytics," said
Coyle, before the deployment.
Coyle
and Doan work for USJFCOM efforts in their respective
regions and report to Domenech at CENTCOM headquarters.
"Each location's mission is a little bit different," said
Doan. In Tampa, Domenech is compiling the requirements
and then sends back the information to USJFCOM.
"Right now there is a host of capabilities the USJFCOM
brings to the table and this helps us speak with one voice," said
Domenech. "Our job is to look throughout USJFCOM and
bring these capabilities to bear."
