U.S. Joint Forces Command will showcase its modeling and simulation efforts supporting the joint warfighter when the command participates in the 2005 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference in Orlando, Fla. in late November. By JOC(SW/AW) Chris Hoffpauir (NORFOLK, Va. - Nov. 16, 2005) - U.S. Joint Forces Command will participate in the 2005 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), which begins Nov. 28 in Orlando, Fla. According to organizers, the annual conference is the world's largest military-related training and simulation conference. It encourages cooperation between the armed services, industry, academia, and other government agencies in pursuit of improved training and education programs. The conference, held in Orlando's Orange County Convention Center, offers attendees the chance to see more than 400 exhibits, allowing them to explore the industry's newest technological developments. According to Navy Captain David Frost, director of USJFCOM's joint management office for the Joint National Training Capability (JNTC), the conference offers USJFCOM the chance to educate participants about the command's missions. "Participating in I/ITSEC offers us the opportunity to demonstrate what we do in the joint training environment on the world's largest stage of this type," Frost said. "We can educate people from around the world about what our role is in joint training, including our role in education, and modeling and simulation." According to Frost, USJFCOM offers to partner with industry and academia to achieve success in solving joint training and experimentation challenges. The event provides a venue for the command to show the need for live, virtual, and constructive (L-V-C) capabilities in conducting training, experimentation, mission rehearsal, and current operations. USJFCOM will send approximately 100 representatives to the event. One of the command's academic partners, Old Dominion University's Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center (VMASC), will send an additional 25 people. They will support USJFCOM's Joint Virtual Training Special Event (JVTSE) and demonstrations by NATO's Allied Command Transformation in addition to demonstrating VMASC's own research and development programs. JVTSE is a demonstration in which USJFCOM showcases new and emerging capabilities for training, education, and simulation through the JNTC. This capability is an enhanced way of training that offers the services a potential spectrum of L-V-C training environments. L-V-C training environments include live forces - real people in real locations using real equipment, virtual simulation - real people in simulators, and constructive simulation - simulated entities in a simulated environment. The goal is to offer a training structure which is as close an approximation as possible to the actual operational environment for full spectrum operations. Frost said an event like I/ITSEC benefits the command by promoting liaisons with industry and academia to find solutions across the joint spectrum. "The command's personnel get to interface with their partners from the services, industry, and experts from around the world," Frost continued. "There are a lot of benefits from that interaction. Just developing the scenario for the JVTSE involved working with coalition partners and more than 20 partners from industry."
