President George W. Bush has nominated Army Maj. Gen. John R. Wood to become the next deputy commander of U.S. Joint Forces Command. By USJFCOM Public Affairs (NORFOLK, VA. - Nov. 15, 2005) -- U.S. Joint Forces Command's (USJFCOM) current director for joint experimentation has been nominated to serve as the command's next deputy commander. If confirmed by the Senate, Army Maj. Gen. John R. Wood would put on his third star and succeed Army Lt. Gen. Robert Wagner. Wagner will soon leave USJFCOM to serve as the commanding general of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C. Wood has overseen the Joint Experimentation Directorate since October 2004. Commissioned following graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. in 1972, Maj. Gen. Wood has held numerous assignments during his career, ranging from platoon leader to commanding general of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Eighth U.S. Army, Republic of South Korea. He also served as a National Security Council White House Fellow from 1984-85. In addition to a bachelor of science degree from the U.S. Military Academy, Wood holds advanced degrees from the University of Chicago and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. His decorations include awards of the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation and Achievement Medals. He is also authorized to wear the Parachutist Badges as well as the Ranger Tab. |
