Joint Logistics Department
The Joint
Logistics Department (JLD) serves
as the command’s rapid logistics concept and prototype
development unit.
JLD personnel develop logistics concepts and support experimentation
and prototype efforts. They work closely with the Office
of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, other combatant
commands, the services and DoD agencies to develop solutions
to global joint operational logistics issues.
The department supports the refinement of joint logistics
rules, tools, processes, organizations, and information technology
architecture by:
• Implementing the Joint Experimental Deployment and
Support (JxDS) concept – JLD is investigating multiple
JxDS capability prototypes: the Joint Force Support Component
Command in U.S. Forces Korea, and an enhanced logistics staff
in U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM), and an enabled J4 staff
in U.S. Southern Command.
• Supporting U.S. Forces Korea as the current structure transforms
into the Korea Command.
• Supporting U.S. Central Command and Multinational Force Iraq
(MNF-I) operational logistics initiatives.
•
Leading U.S. efforts in the logistics portion of Multinational
Experiment 5 – The logistics portion of the experiment
is designed to develop and refine a multinational logistics
concept of operations that will allow multinational partners
to establish support structures and processes for effective
logistics information sharing in a coalition environment.
•
Working with the Joint Staff and USPACOM to establish a quick
reaction test to develop Global Combat Support System tactics,
techniques, and procedures to allow joint warfighters to
better use the system’s capabilities to improve joint
logistics command and control and better sustain joint force
logistics readiness.
• Working with the Joint Staff, the services, other combatant
commands and DoD agencies to revise the Functional Concept
for Joint Logistics, update joint publications in the 4.0
series and support the multifaceted evolution of the joint
logistics portfolio.
