Joint Knowledge Online (JKO)

Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) is an enterprise portal system that uses advanced distributed learning technology to deliver joint courseware and learning tools that support joint training for individual warfighters involved in or preparing for integrated joint operations.

The JKO portal is a fundamental part of the Joint Knowledge Development and Distribution Capability (JKDDC). It integrates with existing DoD systems, like Army Knowledge Online and Defense Knowledge Online, to deliver joint courseware and links to other relevant training products and services.

JKO also provides common and convenient features:
• Instant messaging
• File storage
• E-mail
• Chat
• Forums
• Newsfeeds
• Personal workspace

The JKO offers enhanced capabilities relevant to joint training:
Ease of access – An integrated sign-on capability allows users to enter all JKO sites and applications with a single account using the DoD Common Access Card.
Joint individual augmentee training program – JKDDC creates online individual augmentee training to replace classroom training and hosts it on JKO with a customized joint community page, reducing cost and improving accessibility.
Certified joint courses – JKDDC is the unique authority for certification of distance learning courses to support DoD’s joint training system’s individual joint training standards.
Training tracking – Integration with DoD human resource systems captures training accomplished and allows individuals, as well as training managers, to track individual training progress.
Universal Joint Task List – based search capability – JKO captures and sorts joint courseware and provides cross-referenced knowledge sources that allow individual joint warfighters to find training based on specific task needs.
Subject matter expert reach back – JKO allows users to locate subject matter experts with knowledge or experience on specific topics for questions and dialogue in areas of interest.
NATO, intergovernmental and interagency accessibility – JKDDC reaches out through JKO to joint, multinational, intergovernmental and interagency operators involved in integrated operations. NATO and multinational partners can access unclassified courseware and content of interest.

JKO provides a foundation for future expansion and enhancement. The focus for the future is on the continued expansion of joint training.
