Joint Knowledge Online (JKO)

Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) is an enterprise portal system using advanced distributed learning technology to deliver joint Web-based training courses, products, knowledge and services.  

Part of the overarching Joint Knowledge Development and Distribution Capability (JKDDC), JKO is responsible for evolving the training capability for people preparing for joint operations and exercises.

JKO integrates with other DoD systems to provide accessible, self-paced, pre-deployment Web-based training.  It delivers access to a learning content management system (LCMS) and training resources on military classified and unclassified networks as well as the Internet.  The LCMS manages delivery of the web-based courses and tracks documents and reports student course completions.

Some of JKO’s features include:

• Ease of access – An integrated sign-on capability allows users to enter all JKO sites and applications with a single account using a DoD common access card to avoid using multiple usernames and passwords.
• Tailored Joint Individual Augmentee (IA) Training Program – JKDDC creates all IA training content to replace classroom training, tailoring content to the Horn of Africa, Iraq and Afghanistan areas of operations and hosts that training on JKO.  This reduces cost and improves the relevance and accessibility of this joint training.  
• Certified joint courses – JKDDC is the unique authority for certification of distance learning courses to support DoD’s Joint Training System’s individual joint training standards. 
• Training tracking – Integration with DoD human resource systems allows students and training managers to track training progress. 
• Universal Joint Task List (UJTL)-based search capability – Joint courseware is captured and sorted by UJTL, providing cross-referenced knowledge sources that allow students to find training based on specific task needs. The warfighter is pointed to the right training for the task and training completion is associated with readiness for a specific task. 
• Whole of government and comprehensive approach training support – JKO provides operationally relevant training content that directly supports the whole of government and comprehensive approach training necessary to conduct joint combat, security cooperation, disaster response and humanitarian relief operations. 

JKO provides a foundation for future expansion and enhancement.  The focus for the future is on continual enhancement of the joint training capability to train any audience - unified commands, services, multinational, intergovernmental and the interagency community - in the full joint warfighting context.
