Rear Admiral Dan W. Davenport

Rear Adm. Davenport is responsible for managing the command's warfighting initiatives and providing guidance to the command's executive staff on day-to-day matters. Additionally, he supervises all of the command's administrative issues.

In addition to numerous other sea tours as a surface warfare officer, the admiral has commanded the destroyer USS Ramage and Destroyer Squadron 15 which conducted two deployments under his command, one in the Western Pacific and the second in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Ashore, he has served on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) and commander of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet as well as being executive assistant to both the deputy commander of the Atlantic Fleet and the CNO. Prior to becoming the director of the Navy's assessment division/capability analysis group, he served as the director of the Navy Quadrennial Defense Review, part of the larger Department of Defense's Quadrennial Defense Review that analyzes strategic objectives and potential military threats and serves as the main public document describing the United States' military doctrine.

Previous joint assignments include a tour with U.S. Transportation Command and, prior to assuming his current duties, he served as USJFCOM's director of joint concept development and experimentation.

A 1980 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Rear Adm. Davenport holds a bachelors degree in systems engineering and a masters degree in operations analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School.

He has been awarded the Legion of Merit four times, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal three times, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal twice and numerous unit, service and campaign medals and ribbons.
