Command,
Control, Communications, and Computer (C4) Systems Directorate (J6)
U.S. Joint
Forces Command’s (USJFCOM) Command, Control,
Communications, and Computer (C4) Systems Directorate (J6) empowers
the command to accomplish its mission by providing dependable information
technology networks and generalized communications support.
J6
also provides the joint task force commander with communications
and information technology solutions to support the command and
control (C2) decision cycle, an information assurance program
to protect against network attack, and ready-trained joint component
communications personnel.
Some
of J6’s
major responsibilities include:
• Management of the USJFCOM enterprise network.
• The conduct of financial and policy analysis for information technology
investment, resource, and program management across the enterprise.
•
Service as the command’s chief information officer.
•
Support of combatant commanders’ C4 needs through the sourcing
of mission requirements with specialized subject matter expertise.
• Day-to-day management of satellite resources and gateway access
for assigned units.
Major J6 transformation initiatives include:
• Development of a joint data integration capability which integrates
and correlates air, ground, maritime, and other sensor data to
provide a comprehensive common operational picture;
• Transitioning the Global Broadcast Service to incorporate Internet
protocol-based capabilities, providing enhanced access to high-demand,
high-bandwidth products for the warfighter;
• Satellite communications and teleport capability to meet the joint
task force and component commanders operational and training requirements;
•
Integrating collaborative tools into the command’s daily
business and becoming a combatant commander advocate for a joint
approach to service-oriented architectures;
• Contributing to the development of a concept of operations for
cyberspace operations;
• And working with the Joint Knowledge Development
and Distribution Capability program office in deploying Joint
Knowledge Online,
an enterprise portal providing joint training through distance
learning.
The directorate also works to increase the ability of the services
to work together and with multinational partners. Major directorate
interoperability initiatives include:
• Oversight of the Coalition Warrior Interoperability
Demonstration;
• Joint User Interoperability Communications Exercise;
• DoD Interoperability Communications Exercise;
• Streamlining multinational information sharing;
• And providing spectrum management services to assigned forces in
support of current operations, training, counter improvised explosive
devices efforts, and various testing and evaluation events.
