Strategy and Policy Directorate (J5)

U.S. Joint Forces Command's (USJFCOM) Strategy and Policy Directorate (J5) supports the command's goals through the development, coordination and execution of national and command strategy and policy.

J5 efforts also include the integration and synchronization of initiatives across the command, its component commands, fellow combatant commands (COCOM) and multinational partners with programs such as foreign liaison and exchange officer programs and the COCOM engagement program. The COCOM engagement program provides an ongoing forum for USJFCOM to support the geographical and functional combatant commanders' objectives.

J5 builds and refines strategy and policy on a national and command level through the analysis of current documents, development and coordination of strategy and policy as well as laying the foundation to optimize strategic decisions at the command group level. J5 also brings together interagency partners to work effectively alongside USJFCOM in efforts to implement ongoing and future engagement, strategy, policy and plans.

J5's Center for Joint Futures gathers, synthesizes and communicates various strategic and military futures thinking and makes that analysis the foundation of USFJCOM execution of Department of Defense enterprise concept development and experimentation efforts.

As the single focal point for congressional engagements, J5 delivers the command message inside the National Capital Region, liaises with the office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Staff, and interagency through its permanent presence in the Washington Liaison and Joint Legislative Affairs Offices.
