The commanding general of U.S. Joint Forces Command has issued a statement after his nomination by President Barack Obama to be the next U.S. Army chief of staff.

Command Special Staff (J02)

U.S. Joint Forces Command’s chief of staff manages the command's warfighting initiatives and provides guidance to the command's executive staff on day-to-day matters. He supervises all of the command's administrative issues.

The chief of staff oversees the Command Special Staff (J02) Directorate’s various sections, which offer specialized knowledge and coordination that supports the command’s operational staff.

Special Staff sections include:
The Staff Secretariat - Tasks the staff with actions due to the commander, deputy commander, chief of staff, and outside organizations and coordinates activities between staff organizations.
The Headquarters Commandant - Oversees facilities management, staff quality of life programs, and supply and transportation issues.
Human Resources - Manages the command's civilian personnel program
The Command Surgeon (J02M) - Leads the transformation of joint forces through joint medical concept development and experimentation and recommends joint medical requirements.
The Command Security – Executes, monitors and administers physical, personnel, information and industrial security programs.
The Command Protocol - Coordinates and facilitates visits by many distinguished visitors who come to learn about the command's mission.
The Office of the Comptroller - The primary advisor to the command on financial management.
The Records Management Center - Monitors and administers the command's documents and regulations and coordinates the command’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) program.
The Science Advisor - Develops and implements the command's science and technology strategy and identifies technical problems and solutions related the command's warfighting requirements.
The Historian - Maintains a complete record of the command’s activities.
The Chaplain - Serves as the principal advisor to the commander on matters of religion, ethics and morals.
The Business Office - Oversees government contracting in the command and helps improve the command's internal business processes.
