Joint Forces Command cases its colors
The command, established in 1999 to champion getting all branches of the military to work together more closely, cased its colors at a ceremony in Suffolk, Va.

Joint warfighting will continue, Odierno says
The end of the command does not mean the end of joint operations or the emphasis on joint theory in the U.S. military.

About Us

United States Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) is one of DoD's ten combatant commands and has several key roles in transforming the U.S. military's capabilities. Headquartered in Norfolk, Va., the command oversees a force of more than 1.16 million dedicated men and women, spanning USJFCOM's service component commands and subordinate activities. The command is comprised of active and reserve personnel from each branch of the armed forces, civil servants, and contract employees.

USJFCOM's major Unified Command Plan mission areas include:
Joint Force Provider - The command informs the decisions of the Secretary of Defense on joint force solutions to emergent and ongoing military operations, assists commanders in identifying potential readiness issues, and develops appropriate strategies to maintain the nation's forces at the highest possible levels. In 2006, USJFCOM coordinated the deployment of more than 290,000 personnel in support of combatant commanders and DoD support agencies.
Joint Force Integrator - USJFCOM leads the integration of solutions to today's joint warfighter interoperability challenges. The command works closely with combatant commanders, the services, and other government agencies to identify and resolve joint warfighting deficiencies. The command's work in this area is one of the most pressing requirements to transform legacy forces and establish an integrated joint force.
Joint Concept Development and Experimentation - Leading the development, exploration, and integration of new joint warfighting concepts, the command tests them through experimentation and, in collaboration with other combatant commands, services and agencies, recommends solutions to better integrate their warfighting capabilities. The command also collaborates with and builds on best practices from industry and academia.
Joint Force Trainer - As DoD's joint force trainer, USJFCOM prepares joint task force commanders and staffs to execute their missions in a joint environment. These ever-improving joint task force preparation events include mission rehearsals for units deploying around the world as well as humanitarian missions. Events are conducted with a wide variety of partners including interagency, multinational, and nongovernmental organizations. In a typical year, USJFCOM coordinates and supports commanders through more than 70 joint training events, involving 46,000 participants.
Joint Force Enabler - USJFCOM provides joint force commanders with ready joint enabling capabilities. These capabilities provide the joint force commander with deployable support teams that have the individual and collective skills to: understand the operational environment, plan fully integrated joint operations at the operational level of war, coordinate unified actions with all appropriate mission partners, and prepare appropriate implementing directives/orders for subordinate tactical formations.
JTF HQ Standards Development - USJFCOM leads the collaborative development of joint readiness standards for joint task force headquarters, functional component headquarters, and headquarters designated as potential joint headquarters.
